Squirrel Hill's Marty Allen: A Video Overview

Marty Allen came a long way from Squirrel Hill to the fame he enjoyed for decades with his straight man, singer-comic Steve Rossi. Allen credited Nat King Cole with putting the two of them together in 1957, a year after another duo that thrived on that formula, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, parted ways.  Allen and Rossi gained ample notice for appearing with the Beatles on two of their Ed Sullivan Show appearances, one in 1964, the other in 1965.

They appeared on Sullivan a total of 44 times but even before that, built a reputation in clubs and guest in on other TV variety shows popular in the 50's and 60's.
