Tom Petty: A Sampler Of His Greatest

AP File Photo

In a week of horrors--Puerto Rico and Las Vegas were too much.  Capping it off with another painful event--the unexpected death of Tom Petty of a massive coronary at 66--leaves everyone who knows and cares feeling especially bleak.  Petty, however, left behind a staggering array of great music spanning 40 years that will certainly outlive him.  Here are the best known high points, including moments with Bob Dylan and the Traveling Wilburys, the supergroup built around Dylan, Petty, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne and George Harrison. Today only Lynne and Dylan remain.   These are but a handful.  No doubt more gems not yet heard will reveal themselves in years to come.
