The intrigue surrounding the New England Patriots interest in Steelers restricted free agent Emmanuel Sanders grew a bit thicker this afternoon. The team, in a move that was somewhat expected, released wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, who was second in yards and reception (74 and 911) for them last season. Since the leader in those categories, Wes Welker, already bolted for Denver, the Patriots are in the market for wide receivers.

Well, that clears that up.
After going back and forth on restructuring his contract, the Patriotshave decided to release wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald.
That would seem to indicate they’re serious about signing Steelers wideout Emmanuel Sanders to an offer sheet, though that paperwork hasn’t been filed.
