The Steelers today signed unrestricted free agent Ramon Foster to a three-year contract. Foster, a regular at guard last season, will have to fight to keep his job in 2013. Insiders are projecting Kelvin Beachum, who got a lot of work at tackle last season, as the starter at left guard and with David DeCastro healthy, right guard is taken. Foster’s versatility makes him a valuable reserve.

The 27-year-old Foster has started 42 games for Pittsburgh in four seasons, including all 16 games in 2012. He started the first 13 games at right guard before moving to left guard when David DeCastro  returned to action late in the season.

At the very least, Foster’s return would strengthen the Steelers’ guard depth.
