Fresh Fridays Are Back!

Fresh Fridays are back. Check out the scene over on the Northside every Friday, July 8th through August 26th, 4:00pm – 6:00 pm. Local chefs will be there, demonstrating their skills along with family art projects and the 2011 Alcoa Environmental Series, which highlights regional environmental organizations. Heading that way myself in just a little bit.

Mennonites make the hard work easy

They came to town for a conference, to share ideas and to learn more about each other. They also came to share themselves with our community.

On Wednesday, roughly 30 or so teenagers, in town attending the Mennonite Conference, worked in the hot sun, laughing and joking, yanking up weeds, thistles and all sorts of un-named green things from the Oakcliffe Overlook. They didn't have to do it, they just did and with a smile. And believe me, the community is truly grateful for all the hard work they did.

What started out as a thicket of vines, weeds and trash is now cleared for the development of the fruit orchard. The pathway has been cleared up and new mulch put down making it easier to travel along.
