Hot night on Butler Street

treetendersLast night I joined what I can only call some really dedicated tree folks in Lawrenceville. The Tree Tenders group, part of the Friends of the Pittsburgh Urban Forest, went out in the late afternoon heat to check on some young trees along Butler Street. Now, most people were trying to stay out of the heat let alone go out there and dig around in the ground with traffic zooming by them. Matt Erb, director of urban forestry for the group, took some time out from mulching to chat.

Have to confess I was quite happy to get back to the office with its semi AC. Got a few emails from around town that should be of interest.

First, CMU's ChargeCar project station located on Fifth Ave.  The idea is to reduce polution by changing over cars to electricity.  If you're interested in joining in the effort, the group is looking for people to upload their commute data.  This Friday evening there is an open house at 7 p.m. followed by a screening of the movie "Gasland" so grab your folding chair and head over to the rehabbed station.

Pittsburgh Green Drinks will be holding their next session at the ChargeCar garage on Friday, July 16th at 7 p.m. Not familiar with Green Drinks? Want to enjoy a beverage and talk with folks interested in the environment? This is your group. They meet every third Friday of the month at different locations around town. Sign up for emails of coming events.
