After ending his first athletic love of playing basketball in through college, home-town Pittsburgh local, Matt Mauclair needed something to keep his competitive spirit alive. Taking a YMCA Intro to Triathlon class to learn how to swim, that summer he entered into a dozen local sprint triathlon races ... and caught the multi-sport bug.
The next year, Matt was toeing the line at his first long distance race, Ironman Lake Placid, which encompasses a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and is capped off with a 26.2 marathon, all done within a 17-hour time limit. Many years later and 12 Ironman race finishes, teamed with a slew of other endurance event finishes, Matt, a USAT certified coach, founded 'Trust The Plan Coaching' to help other athletes experience the euphoria of training/racing and crossing the sacred finish line of triathlon and marathon running.
This past year, he teamed with the Greater Pittsburgh YMCA to help bring a structured triathlon and endurance program to their many members needing an extra challenge. In addition, he is passionate about building the triathlon program as a sanctioned sport at Carnegie Mellon University.
