Welcome to Wellness N'At! Please take a moment to meet Jason Ewing, our Health and Fitness Specialist, through his own words:
As an American College of Sports Medicine certified Health and Fitness Specialist and a current Doctor of Physical Therapy student at the University of Pittsburgh, I bring to the table the knowledge, skills and abilities that will help guide Pittsburgh “Health-Seekers” and athletes to valid health and wellness resources throughout the city. I have served in the United States Army as a non-commissioned officer and qualified Sniper with multiple combat tours under my belt. I have at least 7 years of experience in research, design and the implementation of quality and result-oriented strength and conditioning programs for all age groups and abilities. I have recently worked as the Director of Healthy Living for the YMCA of greater Pittsburgh for over 3 years where I was solely responsible for the screening, hiring and training of some of the very best personal trainers in the city. I am an avid health seeker, runner, obstacle course racer and sometimes participate in triathlons. I hold certifications in multiple group exercise disciplines to include Indoor Cycling, Les Mills Body Pump, Kettlebell and general group exercise classes.
I will be looking at fitness from two unique perspectives: as a personal trainer and as a physical therapy graduate student. I will provide health and wellness information to the Pittsburgh audience that will be both innovative and safe. I will post material such as “What to look for in a trainer”, “Healthy Tip/Workout of the week”, “What fitness trends are actually safe AND effective”. As a Physical Therapy student I will also provide some evidence-based health and wellness information that will be intended to educate all of our readers on the importance of preventative exercise and rehabilitative strategies to some common ailments. I also plan to keep an eye out for the coolest and exciting fitness venues in the city so that I can inform our readers of events that are fun and challenging for the individual weekend warrior as well as the family “Health-Seekers”.
I look forward to a great start to our blog and getting to know our readers throughout the city of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. Welcome to Wellness N’at and I look forward to educating and interacting with you all.
Best In Health,
Jason Ewing ACSM-HFS
