Off to press tour

Tomorrow morning I'll be winging my way west for the summer Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles (Southwest Airlines, don't fail me now!). It's been a year since the last press tour due to the writers' strike, which scuttled the January tour. I'm eager to re-connect with my fellow TV critics and get access to TV executives, writers, actors, etc.

But this will be a very different press tour from the norm. Usually about this time of year I'm scrambling to get through watching the broadcast networks' fall pilots. This year, only CBS sent many pilots out (they're generally decent if not spectacular).

KDKA-TV has hired a new Westmoreland County bureau reporter to replace Mary Berecky, who departed in May.

Trina Orlando, a morning and noon anchor at WJET/WFXP in Erie, starts at KDKA Aug. 1. She's a Mt. Pleasant native and graduate of the University of Southern California. She previously interned at KDKA-TV, WTAE-TV and KQV-AM.

Orlando's father, Don Orlando, is director of public relations at St. Vincent College. KDKA general manager Chris Pike said Trina won't cover St. Vincent College.

"If there's a significant St. Vincent story, we'll have someone else cover it," Pike said.

The Emmys: Do you care?

Wednesday, 02 July 2008 06:09 AM Written by

Last week, the Emmys announced the semi-finalists in the best drama and best comedy categories, the first time they've ever done that, reportedly because the L.A. Times blog Gold Derby always reveals them anyway. Final nominees will be announced July 17 and the Emmy ceremony will be televised Sept. 21.
