A new eight-part docu-series, “Spy Wars with Damian Lewis” (8 p.m. Sunday, Smithsonian Channel), recounts espionage cases from the past 50 years, beginning with the case of Oleg Gordievsky, a KGB agent posted to the Soviet embassy in London who became a double agent, passing intel to Britain’s MI6.

Lewis, who played a possible American turncoat in early seasons of Showtime’s “Homeland,” hosts “Spy Games,” which in its March 29th episode follows the case of a man arrested in 2006 for plotting to blow up U.S. airliners.

The April 5 episode, “Spies Next Door,” may sound familiar to fans of “The Americans”: It pulls back the curtain on a network for 10 Russian sleeper agents living in the United States. Consult your cable/satellite provider for Smithsonian’s channel number on your system.
