With is logo and title – and airing on AMC -- “Lodge 49” (10 p.m. Monday) sounds like it could be a dark series about a sinister organization but it turns out to be a light-hearted drama.

Set in Long Beach, Calif., “Lodge 49” follows a cheerful but down-on-his-luck ex-surfer, Dud (Wyatt Russell, “Ingrid Goes West”), whose car runs out of gas in front of a rundown fraternal lodge in search of new members.

Ernie (Brent Jennings, “Shameless”), a plumbing salesman and one of the lodge leaders, welcomes Dud in but also uses the younger man’s arrival as a way to settle his gambling debts.

Created by author Jim Gavin (“Middle Men”), “Lodge 49” goes down easy but perhaps too easy. It feels unessential in the 500-series era, an OK diversion but not a must-see series.
