Former WPXI meteorologist lands a new gig

Former Channel 11 meteorologist Mike LaPoint, who was uncermoniously jerked around throughout his tenure at WPXI, has landed a new gig. He always seemed like a nice guy so I hope he'll get better treatment at his new station.

 LaPoint has been named chief meteorologist at WOWT, the NBC affiliate in Omaha, Neb. Below is the station press release:

Mike LaPoint will lead the Channel 6 News Weather Authority as Chief Meteorologist.  
Mike has more than 20 years of experience as a broadcast meteorologist, forecasting every 
kind of weather. He has been at the helm in tornado alley, in the bitter cold/extreme heat, and 
taken on a hurricane.  He is an AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist and is a member of the 
National Weather Association.  Mike is “coming home” to the Midwest.  A Lawrence, KS native, 
Mike is a graduate of University of Kansas.  His wife Jenny is from Cedar Rapids IA.  They and 
their 3 children are thrilled to be close to family.
Also joining the Weather Authority is Cheryl Lemke.  Cheryl is a member of the National 
Weather Association who spent 22 years with The Weather Channel.  Cheryl is also coming 
home, having grown up in Omaha and graduated from Iowa State University.  In addition to 
forecasting, Cheryl will focus on special projects for WOWT (6.1) and its digital channel, The 
Weather Authority Channel (6.2).
Mike and Cheryl with Meteorologists Rusty Lord, Jill Gilardi and Greg Armbrecht, make up the 
largest and most experienced weather team in the Omaha metro area.
