Just got a press release with the complete cast of "Beautiful —The Carole King Musicall," based on the music and life of the great pop-music singer-songwriter, and spotted some names with local ties in the ensemble. The show's pre-Broadway run in San Francisco begins Sept. 24, leading up to a Nov. 21 opening at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Broadway.
Woodland Hills High and Point Park alum E. Clayton Cornelious, who was in the touring company of "Sister Act" that passed through Pittsburgh, and Chris Peluso of Ross, the Gene Kelly Award-winner for best actor in 2001, are listed in the ensemble that will join Tony nominee Jessie Mueller as Carole King and "Spider-Man" alternate Jake Epstein as Gerry Goffin.
With Epstein leaving "Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark," his spot will go to Justin Matthew Sargent, who played the rocker Drew in Broadway's "Rock of Ages. Reeve Carney, who has been the leading man since the show opened in previews in 2010, will leave he web-slinging role Sept. 15.
