Must audio and video persistently be bound together for a videographer and filmmaker? Valery Lyman thinks not, and challenges the connections between these two elements in her latest work, “Breaking Ground,” featured August 22-24 at Carrie Blast Furnaces.
Limbo is a puzzle, platformer that follows the journey of a boy who wakes up in the woods to find himself in the most hostile of hostile environments. The boy’s story isn’t told with a script, dialogue or music, but rather relies solely on imagery.
The world is stripped of all color and has only black and various shades of gray granting a Film Noir style. Developers Playdead Games capture the feeling of insignificance and absolute desertion perfectly from the opening frames. The background seems like it goes on forever, the boy's stature pales in comparison to the towering trees and living creatures, and there is no sound minus the sound the boy’s echoing footsteps and the occasional breeze crawling through the nothingness that is the world of Limbo.

These two beasts from the 80’s are out for each others blood and it’s up to you and your teammates to outwit and outmaneuver you enemy races.
