Ray Price is leaving East Texas Medical Center and returning to his ranch in Mount Pleasant, Texas under hospice care to enjoy what him and wife Janie now acknoweldge are his final days. They're pursuing no further extraordinary treatments, and the honky tonk icon has issued a final farewell to his fans. This story from the website of KLTV says it all.
Not many performers go so far as to release a final, public farewell, but Price has never been one to mince words--ever. This is his 1996 induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame with a nice summary by Kris Kristofferson. He indeed should have been in the Hall of Fame sooner, but like some other legends, he tended to run afoul of Music Row politics and like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and...Kristofferson, didn't really give a damn.
