Randy Travis, who suffered a major stroke July 10 while being treated for a virus that had damaged his heart,  has been discharged from a Plano, Texas hospital to a physical rehabilitation facility.  Given his critical condition before and after the stroke, this is a major move forward.

The stroke itself was likely a result of the viral cardiomyopathy (a virus attacking and damaging the heart) which had already taken a toll.   The photo above shows him performing in Nashville at the CMA Music Festival on June 7.

His fiance, Mary Davis, has expressed gratitude for the good wishes of fans.  The tragedy for Travis himself is obvious, coming at a time his personal fortunes had taken a dramatic turn for the better after last year's alcohol related arrests in Texas.  He appeared on his way to assuming a revered elder statesman status in the business, similar to that of Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Ray Price, Dolly Parton and the late George Jones.  Stroke recovery is not easy, though many advances have taken place in the past decade or so.
